Having had no prior teaching experience, I benefitted immensely from this course. Although fairly familiar with parts of speech, I feel I have solidified my understanding of certain grammar items, allowing me to be able to teach specific rules to english learners. I learned about the ESA approach to making lesson plans, and got to practice making some of my own. This skill is something I most definitely intend to put to use since I recognize how valuable each aspect of such lessons are. Although teachers obviously need to teach in a class, classes should always start with an activity that gets students engaged and motivated to learn and end with one that allows students to experiment with the language. I’m so grateful to the course for the many activities it suggested for different phases and to teach a variety of concepts. The course also forced me to start thinking about my own creative ways to teach a language item. Finally, I learned how I need to behave as a teacher, and what kinds of things I should make sure I do at the beginning of a class and as it progresses to ensure students continue to be motivated to learn in a comfortable environment.
