I started this course with teaching experience but absolutely no background in teaching efl, nor any background in english except for the fact it's my native language. The amount I learned in this course is beyond what I could sum up in a short answer. I found the process of unraveling my own language both fascinating and sometimes confusing. I will admit that before this course I had absolutely no idea that a modal auxiliary verb existed nor even that there was a word for passive voice. Six months ago I wouldn't have been able to tell you the types of verb tenses if I spent all day trying to figure it out. Now, six months later I can proudly say I have not only an awareness of these language points but also a pretty solid understanding of them. I understand that this is probably just the tip of the ice berg. I thought I would learn how to teach english but I've also found an interest in linguistics and a desire to learn more. I found the lesson planning steps helpful as well to organize the information I was learning and designing it into a format that I could then use to teach from. Many ideas I already had chaotically floating in my mind about different learners, and teaching styles where streamlined and organized into digestible material. While completing the first unit I was overwhelmed thinking I'd never be able to master the goals of this course. By the end I am more confident and while I'm sure I'll make a million mistakes, I feel ready to teach in a classroom. I feel ready to give it a whirl and see what more I will learn in this next phase.
