I have benefited in many ways from completing this course. I have gained specialized tefl knowledge, enhanced my teaching skills, gained additional creative ideas and learned about new games to be used in the classroom. My confidence in teaching english as a second language has also increased as a result. In particular, I have gained more confidence in the teaching of grammar. The course has been a good way to review my already acquired knowledge in the field, as well as a way to integrate new information that I can use in my role as a teacher. I can better articulate the teaching methods that I use and more formally prepare a lesson plan. Completing the course reassured me of the relevant use of the professional skills that I have used in my first career as a clinical social worker i.e. building rapport, engaging and motivating students, enhancing effective communication, teaching of new skills, active listening, as well as encouraging students to better handle challenges, foster positive development and increase their overall well being. I will continue to implement many aspects of what I have learned from this course to my teaching experience. I will use the knowledge learned regarding the EAS method to help me better guide and organize my lesson plans. Using the EAS method will help me make sure that I cover all stages within the lesson, in that way optimizing the learning experience of the student. I will be more details in my explanations regarding grammar rules and provide more examples to help clarify these rules to the students. And lastly, I will take advantage of the many ideas, games and activities that were presented in the course to make the class experience more interesting and fun for my students.
