As a native english speaker with an Undergraduate degree concentrating in english Literature and Theatre, I have only taken a couple of linguistics courses and have hardly studied grammar since my primary school days. This course was of the utmost necessity for one such as myself because it forced me to pay attention to things that I had taken for granted simply in practice. From modal auxiliary verbs, to even dealing with the different tenses, the terminology and the explanation for why things are the way they are in english, I realized, was lost to me. Teaching english to students whose first language is already english is by far a lesser challenge than what this course prepares you for. I personally needed to be instructed and corrected by my tutor on numerous occasions on the details that I had overlooked. The planning of lessons has always been my weak point and this course made me buckle down and seriously tax my brain as to what I would truly do to impart a particular bit of knowledge to a different range of pupils. I am truly grateful for the insight this course gives and for the way each unit was written. The information I gathered here will last me throughout my teaching days as I can continue to refer to it when I myself forget. I would definitely recommend this course to others who may or may not be seeking to pursue a career in tefl, because I find it useful either way as a teacher of english to native speakers as well as to those who view it as foreign.
