I have gained a lot from this course. I originally did not know what or how I would use what I was about to learn from the tefl course. I did not know what to expect, as I had spoken to some friends and heard mixed responses. Personally, I gained an understanding of the fundamentals of the basic and not so basic formations of the english language. As an EMT person, I so easily took for granted the ability to speak english, and had not really taken the time to understand that there is so much in a simple sentence when it comes to someone learning to speak. Living abroad has caused me to realize that learning a foreign language is not easy. As both a learner of a foreign language as well as a teacher of a language-I have learned 2 entirely different aspects of the classroom setting. From teaching a foreign language-knowing and being prepared to instruct those that may have no past experience to maybe someone that just needs a ‘brush up' course. As a student learning a foreign language I have learned the basics of the language and found that learning a language that is not native to you can be frustrating, overwhelming, exciting..as well as many other feelings involved. Throughout my course of tefl I really analyzed what I could do with what I learned through this course. Though there is a lot of useful information-I have decided to continue teaching both in the classroom setting as well as privately. I am going to continue pursue my education-and further my certifications to teach english abroad as well as possibly return to University and obtain my diploma in the english language. Overall, what I gained through this experience is that it takes real dedication to learn and obtain this information to be able to teach others-and it is so worth it.
