Confidence can make or break a teacher. A teacher without confidence will be nervous and will not be able to perform to the best of their abilities. Their students will not feel comfortable or motivated to learn and speak the language. A teacher with confidence, however, will be able to inspire their students. Their students will feel at ease and their classes will be effective, interesting, and fun. There are several ways that a teacher can increase their confidence in the classroom. One of the main ways to increase confidence is by having a solid organizational system. If the teacher knows where their class materials are, they have one less thing to stress about. This will make their lessons run smoother. The teacher needs to have a set way of dealing with tardy students, class disruptions, and homework. This way they will spend less class time trying to find items and classes will be more productive and time efficient. A teacher can increase their confidence by being prepared and knowing their subject matter through and through. If a student asks a question about the subject matter and the teacher cannot answer it, this will make the teacher feel uncomfortable and unprepared. teachers can study english on their own time to increase their knowledge of the language and they can read articles on tefl/tesol teaching to learn new ideas for the classroom. This will give the teacher more options for their classes and more ways to deal with situations that may arise. Another way to increase confidence is simply by practicing and rehearsing before the class. Doing a trial run of the lesson the night before will allow the teacher to figure out the class details and problems that might occur. If the teacher is nervous or a bit unsure of their public speaking skills, practice is the main way they can increase their confidence. A well-rehearsed lesson is more likely to run efficiently for both the teacher and the students. teachers can gain confidence by becoming familiar with their workplace. This way they know how to work with the technology and equipment in their classroom and school. This removes an element of stress from the teacher’s life. The teacher needs to learn how to deal with malfunctioning equipment so if a problem does come up, they can deal with it directly. This will make their lessons run smoother. One last way a teacher can increase their confidence is by getting to know their students. New classes can be intimidating for both experienced and inexperienced teachers. If teachers get to know their students, they will become more comfortable and at ease while teaching. They can use their knowledge of the students to create lesson plans that students find relevant and interesting. Students are more likely to pay attention and respect the teacher this way. teachers need to practice their lessons, have a strong organizational system, know their subject matter and workplace, and get to know their students. By doing these few things, a teacher can increase their confidence and their overall classroom experience. Their students will feel comfortable and be more motivated to learn the language.
