This course was very helpful to me. I have been teaching for three years and this course taught me that even with experience there is always so much to learn. As a teacher the learning process never ends. The grammar units were especially helpful. As most english speakers I am aware of grammar rules but often lack confidence or the tools to teach it in the classroom. One of the best learning points of this course is all the activities. Even just reading about other people’s ideas helps me create ideas when in the classroom. It is always important to be reinventing your teaching style. This course has really highlighted lesson structure and using variation in a lesson to capture and retain the attention of the students. Knowing that I have the tools to create, plan then execute a lesson plan that I feel has a purpose, and will be effective. It also gives me the confidence when a lesson doesn't go right. I still have a large resource to draw ideas from. Over the course of this class I have changed my goals when teaching. When I first started teaching my main focus was always on improving the students english. But over time my focus has changed from a purely academic goal to a more personal one. In my class I now focus more on creating enthusiasm and enjoyment of learning english. Then the rest will follow. In the classroom I have not only become more conscious of my students levels in different areas but I have also taken to evaluating myself and focusing on areas that I need to improve. This course is very informative and acts as a great resource not only for grammar and games but also as a reminder of what the focus should be when teaching: the students.
