If we ask the teachers what an ideal class is, I think all of them will say, a small size, students are in the same level and motivated to learn. But in fact, a lot of times, we will have to face very difficult situation. I had the experience that there were 50 students in one class and some could express themselves very well while some only could say “my name is…” and “how are you?”. Even the worse, they were young learners; some were as naughty as monkeys. After learning this course, I think I have gained some useful points. For example, if I'm teaching adults students in a big class, I will give them the same material but different tasks, or pair stronger students with weaker ones. For young learners, choral repetition, group leaders (sometimes let the naughty students to be the leaders), interesting group competition games and some rewards will help to maintain the discipline and to get most of the students involved. C. C. Nicaragua • I've reinforced the basic grammar topics that were seen during the course, which helped me to better understand some topics that weren't so clear to me. This will help me when teaching those topics. • I learned how to do a lesson plan. This will help me to give class in an orderly form and time be maximized. • I learned the different types of ESA lessons that can be used which will help me to plan classes in a different order. This will avoid students from knowing beforehand what they will be doing and not fall in a routine. • I learned about the different levels students can be in. This will help me to identify in what level students are in, what I can expect them to know and what to teach them. • I learned about the different types of students and the problems that may arise with each one. This will help me to know how to deal with each type of student. • I learned about the different material and activities that can be used during class. • I learned the advantages and disadvantages of using a textbook which will help me know how to use it. • I learned about evaluating and testing students. This will help me do a better job when I have to prepare a test.
