My goal, when taking this course, was to gain the knowledge and confidence to teach english privately. Living in a country where english is not the native language, I have already taught my own children whom have taken the ECCE and ECPE exams without any problem. I am aware though, that teaching a student who does not have english as a mother language, as mine do, is a very different task. I feel that I have learned much more than I expected. I have been required to move into areas of study that I have not used in many years and have learned the most important part of what I wanted to know, the format and process of teaching english as a foreign language. It is one thing to know a language, or any skill, and another thing to be able to teach it. I have learned where and how to find information that I will need in order to be a knowledgeable teacher and how to organize a lesson that will benefit the student. I have learned what is needed to prepare a professional lesson plan and what to include for a complete lesson. I plan to work with children and adults in preparation for their english Language exams.
