What was gained was how to go about teaching an esl class. Previously, my wife and I had been asked to help out in teaching english (no previous experience) to some chinese expatriates in Singapore. We were involved with 2 or 3 sessions but felt like the sessions were somewhat disorganized & not terribly productive. However, now we have the knowledge & are confident that we can successfully teach an esl course. It was good to go over material regarding what makes a good teacher, the role of a teacher and what makes a good learner. Also, going over the grammar points, such as the ‘Tense System' was beneficial. The most beneficial part was learning an effective method of teaching, which incorporates engage, study and activate in the lesson. Very satisfied with that.
I don't know at this moment where we will put what we have learned into action. It could be amongst the Hispanic community back in the usa or possibly be teaching Asian expatriates in Singapore. At the moment the future is not entirely clear.
