There are many options for teaching english around the world. A hopeful teacher can teach in an english speaking country or in a foreign country where english is not the native language. It all depends on how adventurous the teacher is, what their goals are and what they hope to get from their experience. Someone teaching overseas in a foreign country may be interested in teaching as well as traveling and immersing themselves in another culture while someone teaching in an english speaking country may wish to interact with people from many cultures while building up their teaching experience in a familiar environment. Either way there are many options to look in to. One option for hopeful teachers is to teach in a foreign country where english is not the native language, commonly known as english as a Foreign Language (efl) teachers. There are many positions around the world for these types of jobs. For first time teachers, Asia is a great place to begin as they have a high demand for english teachers in public schools as well as private academies. Countries such as china, South Korea, and japan usually require only a Bachelor of Arts degree in any field and are good launching points for an efl teaching career. Some countries in eastern Europe, such as Georgia, do not require a teacher to hold a bachelor degree or have any experience, but are usually volunteer positions with a monthly stipend to cover expenses. Other countries such as Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Qatar pay well and require their teachers to have a teacher's license and experience teaching. In most cases, teachers with special training such as a teaching degree, teaching certification, tesol/tefl certification, and/or a Master degree tend to get the most desirable jobs worldwide. Another option for teachers is to teach english a Second Language (esl) or english to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) in their own country or another english speaking country. These countries include the united states of America, canada, the United Kingdom, ireland, South Africa, australia and New Zealand. There are many job opportunities available as these countries have immersion programs for adults and children who have relocated to an english speaking country. Jobs range from teaching at public schools and universities to private language schools and businesses. Obtaining a teaching position in one of these countries varies from place to place and from job to job, but a teacher is usually required to have specialized training, such as a certificate in english Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) and some experience. Teaching positions in the UK require a teacher to have a teaching license while australia and New Zealand requires teachers to have a degree, a tesol qualification such as CELTA, and teaching experience. In America, for public schools and universities, teaching certification is also required as well as a Masters degree. America, australia and New Zealand are all open to english teachers from across the globe while the UK usually prefers teachers from the UK, canada, australia, or New Zealand. There are many teaching positions across the globe for people wishing to teach english. All it requires is a little research, the necessary qualifications, and an open mind to become a successful teacher worldwide. Sources: Education-Portal.com.
