I really had no idea what to expect from the course. I did well in my english courses at university and thought that I would have few problems working with the grammar. I have no experience teaching and believed that would be where I would benefit most. I didn’t think the course would be that difficult for me especially since many institutions will give you a certification in just one weekend. The reality of the course is that it is difficult – much more difficult than I ever would have realized. It’s clear that I have forgotten much of what I learned in school about the english language. I always knew I was lucky to be a native speaker because it is a difficult language to learn. Although I have completed nineteen units I still have a lot more review to do to feel really comfortable with it and will be glad to do it because it is a subject I like and have an interest in and I want to be good at what I do. The modules that covered the classroom issues and teaching techniques were good because this is my first introduction to those concepts. I recently met someone who had taught english abroad for a year after university and had no qualifications. It worked for her but that is a situation I would never be comfortable in. I can imagine there are more teachers out there than there should be that are like the first example in the video. I don’t want to be that person and that is why I signed up for this course. I plan to use this certification to teach abroad. My husband is in a profession that allows him to work abroad almost anywhere. The companies he works for do not support work permits for spouses so I have never been able to work while we were abroad. This certificate provides me with my own way of being able to work while we are on assignment abroad.
