First of all, knowing how to speak english doesn’t mean that you can teach it. There are adjustments to be made in the way you speak. Grammar should also be reviewed. Sometimes I think my grammar is correct because it sounds like it’s correct. I have to be careful not to teach the wrong things to the students! To be a good language teacher, experience is very important. I may have learned plenty of theories and ideas during the course but I’m certain that it will be different when I’m in a real class. Nevertheless, the lesson planning and the structure of the class are very important. The course has made me realize that there are many factors to consider when teaching, such as the language level of the students, their culture, the classroom, and the methodology I should use. The ‘engage’ activities would definitely help in enticing the students to participate in the class. I think one of my main goals will be to get the students to like being in class. They would absorb the lesson quicker that way. Although, I realize that it might be difficult to achieve this since people have different preferences and personalities. It wouldn’t hurt to try. I would try to use a variety of materials available to me to create a lively atmosphere in class. This way the students won’t find the class too redundant and boring.
