I have gained a lot from this course. I have a few years experience teaching english in Korea, mostly to young learners. However, I was lacking in confidence in teaching older students, but I feel I have taken a higher level of confidence from this course. It has given me a strong structural platform to work from. I will be able to use the course materials themselves in a number of beneficial ways to help prepare and structure my future classes. I've bulleted some key factors that have been very useful to me and the things that I feel will shape my future teaching style and performance. • Teaching Ideas: The course has highlighted some ideas that I already use, but it has also introduced me to a number of new ways to teach certain tricky and problematic grammar structures. • Grammar Explanation: To course has clearly and simply introduced some tough grammar situations. I've gained some confidence from these and can approach, teaching them, with a far greater level of confidence. • Unit 3, Theories, methods and techniques: This unit was a great eye opener for me. The ESA structure is something that sadly, I wasn't aware of. It's a very simple structure, but appears to be critical in getting the most out of individual classes. It really opens the teacher's eyes to thinking long term about the student's progression. I feel slightly ashamed that I've been teaching for these years, without using this structure. This for me is the biggest thing I've taken from this course. In fact, I can't wait to get teaching again, so I can be a better teacher! Sounds like a cheesy line, but it's true. • In addition to the above comment, I think my lesson planning will improve greatly following the completion of this course. The lesson plan form that was sent out with most units has drilled home to me, the importance of creating a good lesson plan and the positive effect that can have on my planning and class structuring. To summarise, I think the course has given me some discipline, knowledge and a greater level of confidence in teaching. I finally have some solid background knowledge of teaching, to add to my experience. I will, without doubt, be a much better teacher from now on.
