Over the course of this tefl program, I have learned a great deal about teaching. I have learned the ins and outs of grammar structures and tenses, and I have also been introduced to the different aspects of teaching. While it is one thing to teach in general, it is another thing to teach students in a language that is not their foreign tongue. With that said, there are a lot of challenges that go along with this and I feel like tefl really prepared me for those. Whether it be teaching beginners of different ages, teaching to small groups, big groups, or businesses, or dealing with monolingual vs. multilingual classes, tefl gave me the skills to deal with all situations. I have also gained a real appreciation for the teaching process. A teacher not only is responsible for teaching from the book, but the teacher is responsible for inspiring students and getting them excited about the learning process. I plan on putting all of what I have learned into action by being an extremely organized, yet personable teacher. I want to get to know my students and I want to help them learn in all the best ways. I want to give them structure with lesson plans, but not be afraid to rewind a bit if students are having trouble. Adapting is key. I also want to keep students on their toes by coming up with creative supplemental activities and projects. Using a range of teaching aids, I want to implement a dynamic learning process and encourage students to feel comfortable talking.
