In the present tense unit I learned that the english tense system is one of the more difficult aspects of the language for students. As a teacher I should have a firm grasp of the 12 tenses in order to properly instruct my students. This lesson taught me that to help their fluency they should practice writing and using contracted sentences when speaking even though they are harder to pronounce than the long forms. Also another difficult aspect is the numerous irregular past participles that need to be memorized because there are no set rules to aid students. This chapter provided many good activities to help teach and improve the student’s knowledge and confidence when using the present tense.
