In order to teach English grammar and structure, teachers need to understand at least the basics of English grammar. Teachers need to model the kind of learning that we want to see in students as they pursue their English learning. There are different parts of speech that make up sentences and the ideas/concepts we put in them. Nouns, verbs, pronouns, conjunctions, prepositions, adjectives, and adverbs are all labels that denote a word's function, meaning, and structure. In particular, I found the review of specific verb conjugations (such as past participle) particularly helpful. As a native speaker I find myself sometimes explaining verb conjugations as "sounding right"" to English Language Learners. By reviewing the conjugation rules I can now teach a general structure and pattern to my students."
