Unit 2 was the first grammar unit in this course. Its aim of this unit (called parts of speech) was to enable me to recognise the 'parts of speech' and understand their role and function within a sentence.
In this unit 'the parts of speech' were divided into eight subcategories: Nouns, adjectives, articles, verbs, adverbs, gerunds, pronouns and prepositions/conjunctions. Each section had a general explanation of the term and was then further divided into sub-sections specific to that term. Each sub-section explained the rules of each term and how it is used in relation to the subject it was part of. The unit have example sentences and tables to further clarify the points that were being made.
When beginning this course, I didn't fully understand the parts of speech and certainly wouldn?t have been able to recognise them in a sentence. This unit has enabled me to understand the different elements that make up a sentence and how each of these elements functions, both individually and as part of a sentence.
