TEFL Information

Our internationally recognized in-class TEFL course has a universal reputation that is unparalleled. It has been meticulously put together to provide you with all the tools necessary to teach English overseas in a professional and competent manner.

Our in-class TEFL training courses are of four weeks duration and take place in a large number of exciting locations worldwide. The emphasis is on providing you with a course of a practical nature which also includes all the theoretical knowledge required. Whichever location you choose, no language other than English is needed as our courses train you to teach English using the international standard communicative approach – in short, English is the sole language used in the classroom.

Our TEFL certification courses

Although the in-class TEFL course is intensive, this doesn’t mean you will have no time to enjoy new experiences, sample the local culture and meet interesting and new people. Our staff is also dedicated to helping you pass the course and to finding you that all important first teaching position on completion of your studies.

The course is divided into six main areas:

1. Teaching practice

This is an integral part of any in-class TEFL course. During these practice sessions you will get to try out what you have learnt by teaching genuine English language learners in a real classroom environment. Every session is completed under the guidance of our professional teacher trainers.

2. Foreign Language Experience

To aid your understanding of what your future students will experience, all trainees are taught a lesson using a new language. This unique and useful session should help you to empathize with your students and to identify common teaching errors that can potentially confuse language students in the classroom.

3. Language Awareness

a) One area is concerned with written English. It covers word classes, sentence construction and clauses from the simple to complex. Verbs, tenses, conditionals, modals, phrases and voice are also studied.

b) Another area is concerned with phonology. It includes topics such as phonemics, word stress, intonation and connected speech.

4. Student Profile

Students work on building a relationship with their own individual student, analyzing errors and correcting mistakes, as well as addressing individual student needs. Three personal meetings with the student are necessary and include an error analysis of spoken and written samples, finishing with a one hour lesson and a written report.

5. Teaching Techniques

This segment of the course encompasses the following areas:

  • Teaching beginner students
  • Teaching individual students

6. Materials Project

Each student must produce a set of their own materials which can be used to teach a lesson point during a teaching practice session. During the project your trainer will assist you in developing the materials so they can be used in a number of different lesson contexts in the future.
