It told us that there are many parts of speech. They are nouns, adjectives, comparisons, articles, verbs, adverbs, gerunds, pronouns, prepositions and conjunctions. Different part of speech has different function. A sentence must consist of at least a subject and verb but will usually feature more words than this. For example, a noun can act as the object. We use adjectives to describe nouns. Adverb of degree can also modify an adjective or another adverb. A gerund is used in the same way as a noun. Pronouns are words that are used instead of more precise nouns or noun phrases.
