This introduction to English grammar was interesting. It covered the basic categories or units that make up a complete sentence, including, nouns, verbs, adjectives, prepositions, adverbs and so forth. It showed how these units are used, differences within the units as well as the (many) exceptions and irregularities that apply. For a new student of English, this area of study within language is challenging and may well be a stumbling block. For the teacher, such as myself, understanding the grammar of English is essential to effectively teaching it. The truth is, if you can't identify a part of speech, it is difficult to talk about it. If you can't talk about it, then it is difficult to discuss what is correct and what is not, and why. It is a tool for understanding.
