The main thing I feel I have gained from this course is the confidence to go ‘out there' and be a teacher. Before starting the course I was nervous and doubtful about my abilities, but now I feel confident and excited, not only that I can be an english teacher, but that I will be a good english teacher. I think with the right planning and materials, both learning and teaching english will be a very fun and informative career. I have had the added bonus of being a student of a language course at the same time as studying for this tefl course, I feel this has given me an extra awareness of how certain activities and attitudes do and don't work in the classroom, and how I can add my personal experience to what I have learnt from these last 20 modules of tefl study. I plan to put what I have learnt into action by being a well prepared teacher. I am already excited about spending time before lessons, gathering materials and planning my lessons to be as visual and as varied as possible, while at the same time offering my students as many learning opportunities as possible. One aspect I already know about myself is that I like planning and organizing. tefl has taught me that I need to be prepared for the unexpected so that I can be flexible within my lessons, because, as with any situation involving human beings, you can never be prepared for everything. This is something I hope to learn and build on as my career develops.
