This unit covers the technical aspects of grammar that are intuitive to native speakers but often confusing to non-native speakers. It is essential that a teacher have knowledge of these things for when the inevitable questions come. Since it is intuitive to native speakers, we do not think much about it -- for example, I hadn't learned what a gerund was, maybe ever, and yet I use gerunds in my speech every day.
