TEFL Jobs in the Middle East

The Middle Eastern region is well known in the teaching world as offering some of the highest salaries to be found anywhere in the world. As long as you possess a university degree and a good quality TEFL/TESOL certificate—such as those offered by ITTT—you are unlikely to find a better paying job anywhere else around the world.

Many of the countries in this area have been made rich by their large oil deposits but have suffered from a bad international reputation. However, you should not believe everything you have heard because some countries such as Kuwait, Qatar and the UAE are a great deal more liberal than you might think.

Some countries such as Saudi Arabia are still run in a rather strict fashion and are not to everyone’s taste, although the high salaries, free accommodation, tax free income and paid airfare do make them more attractive to many teachers. If you do end up living and working in the Middle East you are likely to be able to save considerable amounts of money throughout the duration of your contract.

Types of English Teaching Positions in the Middle East

The majority of jobs opportunities in this region are based in universities, where male teachers teach all male classes and female teachers teach all female classes. In recent years there has also been an increase in jobs based in private language schools and teaching within private business corporations. Jobs are available all through the year so if you have the necessary qualifications then you should have a good chance of securing a highly lucrative position in this region.
