English to Mold Your Professional Career

English to Mold Your Professional Career | ITTT | TEFL Blog

As we all know, English has become a global language spoken as the official one in many countries around the world. Because of its importance, nowadays English is taught at school to children from a young age because it is a skill that it is looked for by many employers and will be very useful in the future. At the moment it is very important to speak and understand the English language, especially because it gives you the ability to travel, work or have connections abroad in different fields and be able to communicate in a language that it is not your mother tongue with colleagues, clients, or customers. For this reason, I think that studying and knowing English will help and enhance a person’s life and career.

Benefits of English Expertise

Being able to read, write, and correctly speak English has got many advantages, as it will surely help you a lot at school, work and in your personal life. Being the global and second most spoken language in the world will ensure that you, as an adult, will have more chances in terms of job, growth and self-improvement opportunities that you can take advantage of both abroad and in your own country. For example, if you are aiming for a job promotion or if you are simply looking for a better job, knowledge of English will undoubtedly help in your pursuits. If you are a student and have been learning English for years, you could decide to remain in your county and undertake university courses in both English and your first language, or go abroad and continue to study there, as an enormous advantage for your future career.

Broadening Horizons

Another one of the many positive aspects of being introduced to the English language from a very young age, as all foreign languages, is that it opens up your mind to a different culture and way of living because while learning English with all its grammar rules and constructions, the student becomes aware of the differences between cultures and can learn about how people live, their ways of thinking and what their traditions are. This ability to adapt to foreign languages traditions and cultures is something that many businesses and employers require and appreciate in their employees.

Job Opportunities

Indeed, in Italy, my home country, many job opportunities require knowledge of at least one or two foreign languages, especially English. For instance, after having finished a C1 English course I was offered a job as a tutor in the school where I was studying, proving that being a polyglot is a desirable trait for many companies and businesses today. Furthermore, some of my friends and people I know have decided to continue their studies either here in Italy with English courses or abroad, to have more job opportunities in the future. Considering this, without English, traveling or moving abroad would become a much more difficult task, and would limit people’s job prospects.

In conclusion, while English might not be everyone’s favorite school subject, or foreign language to learn and use, for personal reasons, it is good to remember that it is the most important language to know if we are talking about future opportunities regarding our job or our studies abroad. It helps us to be able to keep connections with people from all over the world wherever we go, not having the possibility to use our first language, and it helps us to keep our minds always open, broadening our horizons.
