Au Pair in China Program

Wanderlust China’s Au Pair in China Program provides students and young professionals with opportunities that integrate travel, education, Mandarin language learning, childcare, and English tutoring. This program is a great opportunity for overseas young adults to experience China and the Chinese culture by staying with a host family as well.

Program details

Locations: Host families are primarily located in Shanghai, with additional host families in other major cities, including: Beijing, Chongqing, Hangzhou, and Nanjing.

Program time span: 3 months-12 months, summer programs also available

Responsibilities: 30 hours of childcare and English tutoring per week

English Tutoring

  • Deliver planned English lessons on a daily basis to the host kids
  • Help the kids to learn a second foreign language (optional)
  • Help the kids with their English homework

Childcare

  • Waking up the children
  • Taking/picking up children to/from school
  • Playing games with the children

Engage in family activities

  • Share some light housework (usually not required by host families)
  • Preparing light meals for children and clean up after the meals
  • Doing the children’s laundry and ironing their clothes

Bonus:

  • 1500 RMB pocket money/month
  • 3000-12000 RMB flight stipend (dependent on your length of stay, 3 vs. 12 month program)
  • 3 hours of Mandarin classes/week (12 hours/month)
  • 1.5 days off each week
  • International medical insurance
  • Visa application & renewal fee reimbursement (provided upon Au Pair’s completion of the program)
  • Application: 0$ application fee + $100 USD program down payment (the down payment is only required once the applicant is approved for the program and will be completely returned to Au Pairs upon completion of the program)
  • ITTT TEFL scholarship offered upon one’s completion of the program (depending on each student's qualification and length of stay)

Requirements for the program:

  • 18-28 years old
  • Have completed secondary school (high school)
  • Native speaker or proficient in English
  • No criminal record
  • Open to cultural differences and exploration
  • Have the ability to teach English
