Its capital is at a height 2,850 meters above sea level and rests on the slopes of an active volcano. It is the highest official capital city in the world and was one of the first to be named as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site due to its large and well preserved historic center.
One of Ecuador’s main attractions is its rich and diverse ecology with thousands of species of plants, insects and animals. Hundreds of thousands of visitors arrive in Ecuador every year to see the unique animal life on the Galápagos Islands. Nature lovers will also love Baños de Agua Santa and the Cotopaxi National Park. Baños de Agua Santa is known as the “Gateway to the Amazon” and is a city surrounded by a number of beautiful waterfalls. It is also a popular destination for adventure sports enthusiasts with activities such as kayaking, rafting, canyoning and bridge jumping available. There are also several coastal resorts where you can enjoy surfing, sunsets and more.
