This course has made me realize the importance of basic grammar that native english speakers take for granted. While there are many grammar rules, to a native speaker they come naturally and with ease. Teaching the rules to a non-native speaker is important for building a foundation to speak english. It is also important to know how to place students in terms of what level they speak at. This is important when you are dealing with a class and you cannot give individualized attention to students. If you know what level your students speak at, and what difficulties they may have, you can build your lessons to fit in each students needs as much as possible. I have also seen how vital having a lesson plan is, especially for the inexperienced teacher. Without having a lesson plan that flows you will end up with long gaps of silence in your class and overall confusion. This can lead to frustration from the students, as well as the students not respecting you when they see you are not organized. It is important for the students to respect you and see that you care about your job and their learning environment.
