Taking a tefl course has really broadened our perspectives on what it means to teach any course to any students. It has enlightened us on the technicalities behind teaching, such as the nuances one must take into consideration in regards to age, level of understanding, and classroom size. It has also informed us on the importance of games in this style of teaching – directing us against simple repetition and mind-numbing coursework day in and day out. We now know that it is of the utmost importance, when teaching language, to allow the students free-range and the opportunity to use english while in the class. The practicality of learning a language must be reflected in the classroom environment, as english learned but not used is not a successful way to guide students. The fluency and accuracy of the language are to be focused on at different times. Beyond this, it has taught us how to theoretically keep control of a classroom of various sizes and demographics without risking an overly-strict attitude or a detrimentally laid-back approach. We now have a thorough understanding of how to organize lessons and to place students on a scale of knowledge, as well as to deem what activities and use are appropriate yet challenging enough to build upon existing knowledge and push it forward. Even down to the language itself, we have a new-found respect and working understanding of a language that we have used for so long that the rules had become common sense to us. The beauty, complexity, and difficulty of english are not to be taken lightly in any environment, much less the classroom. We plan on taking what we have learned and putting it into action in a successful classroom environment. We are now more than able to organize our lessons and plot out the direction of a course, but also work with each other and others on revising or plans so as to enable the maximum effectiveness of any courses we are affiliated with. Our current personalities are only complemented by the course's material overall, crafting us from personable professionals into personable educators. We are confident that any class and student that we come into contact with will be infected by our passion and drive to teach, and bettered by our understanding and will to motivate them to be the most fluent and successful english-speakers they can possibly be.
