I gained an understanding of the different aspects that are involved in teaching english as a second language. I now understand what the critical elements in designing a successful lesson and course are. I learned a lot about different techniques that can be used and the importance of evaluating the students' needs and interests in order to help the course best serve them. I feel that this course provided me with a solid foundation on which to build and make myself a better teacher.
I will be teaching english to elementary or middle school students in shanghai beginning in September, and what I've learned in this course will help me greatly in crafting effective lesson plans and teaching my students.
