For me, the experience of learning tefl course is pretty rewarding. I have a clearer idea about what an esl teacher is and what esl teaching is. First, tefl has clarified my knowledge on the basic language points required in esl teaching, they are parts of speech; tenses; pronunciation and phonology; conditionals and reported speech; modals, phrasal verbs, and passive voice. I am better able to explain them, set proper examples and use various teaching ideas to activate them. Second, I am better equipped with teaching methodologies or techniques to teach english, like vocabulary, grammar, and functions; receptive and productive skills. Third, I have a better understanding of esl teachers and learners. I gained important skills of managing classes, using course books and lesson materials, evaluating and testing students' english ability, correcting mistakes and giving feed back. Fourth, I practiced a lot of lesson planning, especially with an ESA method. From all above, to be better able to make a lesson plan turned out my most important achievement after studying tefl course. Now I am used to looking at my lesson plan in the perspective of ESA, and planning or adjusting my lesson to each one of the stages. Now, except pictures, I can use games, discussions, music or other teaching ideas to arouse students' interest in the topic of a lesson in order to lead them into a more conducive language learning environment. For the study phase, I learned that although teacher's explaining of language point is important, students' self discovery is also meaningful, so I would have students discover the language point whenever possible. While in the activate stage, as it is fluency-focused, I would allow students more time and opportunities to practice the target language freely and try not to interrupt or teach in this stage.
