Students learn from the first day of class which behaviors are appropriate and which are required in a learning environment. At every natural opportunity, expectations are stated and given as reminders. When necessary, students are redirected or given consequences for failing to meet expectations. teachers effectively manage a classroom when acceptable learning behaviors are taught. The arrangement of desks and student groups are also essential parts of classroom management. The desks can be arranged in a variety of ways, including rows, groups, or the horseshoe shape. The arrangement of the desks should depend on the activities in which the students are engaged. Rows are good for teacher centered whole group instruction. Groups of desks provide opportunities for students to work together in cooperative learning environments. Horseshoe desk grouping is a great arrangement that allows whole group discussions. Also, teachers give attention to the grouping of students so that the number of students in a group and the skill level of students in the group enhance the instructional goals. For example, a struggling student may work with a higher level student to gain necessary skills. Additionally, teachers build relationships with students as a way to manage a classroom. teachers must appear knowledgeable, caring, and engaged. Students should feel that they are in a safe environment and the teacher is interested in helping them to reach goals. teachers build relationships by getting to know the students by name and skill level.
