Similar to Present tense forms there are both simple and continuous Past tense forms. Past Simple refers to an event that has already occurred and is done. Past Continuous refers to events that have happened but are or can still be going on. Past Perfect like Present Perfect uses the verb tense had and been to convey that some happened before the most recent action or that that something may still be going on even if an action finished before it. I think the best way to get this concept across to students is to make journal entries of day to day activities that they have done
