I found this unit to be helpful in a few ways. It was a very short unit however. I'm really enjoying being able to see the ideas developed into a lesson plan. There are so many interesting and fun ways to teach and I'm excited to use them myself one day. I also really liked the phrase in the text about grammar being the tree trunk and branches of language while vocabulary and functions are the leaves that add beauty and variety. A person can get by in conversation if they are taught the basic grammar and vocabulary of that language but it is important to learn more vocabulary and functions to have meaningful and engaging conversation. Seeing the lessons take shape using the ESA model is very interesting to see. I'm still struggling a bit to see a subject and put it into the ESA model to create a lesson plan. Seeing it displayed in these interesting ways in the text helps get me thinking about it more and hopefully the ideas will start coming to me easier.
