Having learnt English as a home language, I did not learn a lot of grammar. As a foreign teacher I will at some point have to teach grammar, and it is good to have a good knowledge of the subject matter that you are teaching. I can now identify the main parts of speech: Nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, articles, gerunds and pronouns. I can also further distinguish between different types of these separate parts of speech eg: proper noun and common noun.
