Unit two gives an overview of the parts of speech. It details the function of each word in a sentence and its appropriate place in relation to the other words around it. Although I was a writing major in my undergraduate studies, I had a wobbly foundation of grammar that often collapsed when needed most. I learned in this unit, because so much of my grammar radar has been based on my ear of what sounds ?right?. I learned that: articles are identifiers of general or specific objects, that there are five types of nouns, plural nouns have two categorizes of countable and uncountable, adjectives have categories within them and within a sentence are written in an order, and that superlatives are just what they sound like! I am still not wholly clear on what makes a past participle a past participle, but I am reading other sites to help me. I am not a fan of the transitive and intransitive definition, but I hope time will clear that up. I think I know how an auxiliary verb functions. I have this image of a car with the word auxiliary across it driving to the sentence to ?help? it with: have, to be, and do. Right? I like how adverbs are directly after the object following a transitive verb, yet are found after the intransitive verb. However, adverbs of frequency can be found between the subject and the verb. Lastly, I remembered conjunctions from a course I had taken years ago. Will we cover coordinating conjunctions as well? Stay well
