Unit 2, Parts of Speech, emphasized grammar. Grammar is essential to learning any new language. Grammar is an area of study that is generally taken for granted by both students and teacher. However, in my opinion, if one can master the basic parts of speech, then learning a new language will become a solvable and fun puzzle. Apart from this unit solidifying in my mind the importance of teaching grammar and parts of speech to my students, I was also able to review many of the parts of speech that I had previously forgotten, for example, gerunds and reflexive pronouns. I also learned that the most common mistakes in learning grammar lie in the spelling and position of different parts of speech, for example adverbs. The most challenging area of this unit was the section on auxiliary verbs. I often confuse auxiliary verbs with indefinite and definite articles, so I was grateful for the refresher.
