This Unit centered around the correct parts of speech, going into detail where the intricacies of the English language is concerned and the possible difficulties I as a teacher will encounter when teaching. The Unit refreshed my memory on what I had previously learnt and helped me better understand sentence structure. Understanding parts of speech is very important as we learn to understand the use or function of words. We also understand how words are joined together to make meaningful communication. It is very crucial for teachers to distinguish different parts of speech in order to explain it to their students. Each word in a sentence can be classified according to its purpose and the meaning.
Parts of speech:
1. nouns (countable and uncountable)
2. adjectives (comparisons)
3. articles (indefinite, definite and zero)
4. verbs (transitive, intransitive, infinitives, auxiliary)
5. adverbs
6. gerunds
7. pronouns
8. prepositions/conjunctions
