Grammar is a hard concept to teach. There needs to be purpose attached to the lesson in order for students to retain and internalize the lesson. When taught in isolation, students find it much harder to grasp. Teaching a second language along side grammar is so powerful.
What I find most difficult is that a background knowledge for grammar vocabulary is necessary. As we talk about modifying and clauses, it is important that students know what that is Before talking about the parts of speech.
