Unit 2 focuses on the Parts of Speech and the different categories of each part of speech. Parts of Speech include: nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, pronouns, and articles. Each of these parts has its own categories which help to further define and differentiate words. Prior to the unit I was comfortable with the main parts of speech, however I did not have much knowledge of the many categories of each part. For example, I was unaware of the definitive differences between Comparative Adjectives and Superlative Adjectives. The many categories of adverbs, pronouns, and prepositions are also new knowledge. I've also always been confused of what exactly defines a Gerund. Upon studying the subparts, they make sense as a native English speaker, but I had never really thought of them in such terms. This unit was very helpful in gaining a better understanding of the parts of speech, and I plan to continuously study them in order to be more proficient and effective as a teacher.
