This unit discussed the various different forms of speech in English. While many parts of this were already familiar to me, there were quite a few grammatical concepts that I did not know how to articulate. This was very helpful for me because it gave me an opportunity to examine my own language and see how conscious I am of its linguistic functioning. It was quite humbling as well, because it was a good reminder that being a native speaker of English does not automatically qualify me as a tefl teacher. Therefore, I must invest in my ability to consciously comprehend my own language Before I can effectively explain it to my future students.
