Unit two covered the different components to English grammar. This unit covered everything from the most basic parts of speech, such as nouns, verbs, and adjectives to the less understood and recognizable pieces of grammar like prepositions and articles. Adverbs are also mentioned and adequately described. The five main types of adverbs include: manner, place, time, degree, and frequency. In addition, some discreet parts of English grammar are also mentioned, such as the gerund. A gerund is the -ing form of a verb used as a noun. Additionally, more essential components of grammar are in the unit, like nouns. The main types of nouns include: common, proper, compound, abstract, and collective. Moreover, there are also countable nouns and uncountable nouns. Essentially, countable nouns require the use of an article; whereas, an uncountable nouns cannot be counted and do not need an a or an in front of them. Lastly, as a current teacher at a korean hagwon, the articles and prepositions sections were the most appreciated in the unit. Korean students of all ages have a difficult time remembering to place the proper articles and prepositions. After reading the unit, I have a better understanding of articles and prepositions, which will now influence my approach to explaining their grammatical necessity in English sentence structure.
