I have an English degree and have taken literature, writing and linguistics courses, but it has been quite some time that I have reviewed grammar and this lesson was a good reminder of the necessity of grammar review for teaching ESL. As a high school educator, in recent years, there has been a big push to make sure grammar units are included. Unlike when I was in school and we diagrammed sentences as part of English class, the trend for years was to embed the teaching of grammar in the teaching of literature and writing. Unfortunately, in my opinion, this has limited students in their ability to fully grasp reading and writing English whether they are learning English as a second language or English is their native language. This unit made me want to copy it off and give it to the English teachers at my school.
