In this unit we looked at parts of speech. There are ieght parts of speech: nouns - they Name people, animals, places, things, qualities, states (main types are: common, proper, compound, abstract, and collective; there are countable and uncountable nouns)) verbs - verbs refer to action and states(verbs are either transitive or intransitive; there are regular and irregular verbs; adjectives - describe nouns such as people and things. adverbs - add meaning or information to the action (There are five main types of adverbs: manner, place, time, degree, and frequency) articles - there are two types of articles: definite (the) and indefinite (a and an) pronouns - are words that are used instead/in place of more precise nouns or noun phrases (there are four typer of pronouns: personal, possessive, reflexive, and relative) prepositions / conjuctions Prepositions show the relationship between a noun or a pronoun and some other word in the sentence Conjunctions join words or groups in a sentence. gerunds - a gerund is the ?ing form of a verb used as a noun (can be used as a subject or an object)
