This unit provides a detailed overview of the parts of English speech. In addition to describing basic elements of the English language (verbs, adjectives, adverbs, and so on) the unit also goes into more intricate detail. For example it describes the difference between transitive and intransitive verbs and also provides an extensive list of verb conjugations.
Overall I did not learn much new from this course. I already have a fairly strong grasp of English grammar, but it was a good refresher. I often don't think of the English language in technical terms and had forgotten the formal titles for some parts of speech (gerund, for example). Also, the sheer amount of information in this chapter gave me a better appreciation for how difficult and intimidating it must be for ESL students. I hope this insight will help me to be a more patient and caring instructor.
