Reviewing all the different parts of speech was helpful in refreshing my memory of common grammar rules that I use all of the time. Knowing the names of specific parts of speech and being able to understand the grammar rules will be important in teaching students who will not know the proper grammar rules simply "because it sounds right""." This unit clearly explains the different parts of speech in a way that is easy to understand and later transmit to others. It focuses on the most important parts of each part as to not confuse us and one day our students, with the unimportant details. It is amazing how much grammer I took for granted. I never realized how much grammer I knew until I studied this section. I had completely forgotten that the -ing form of a verb could and is sometimes be used as a noun and that this usage is called a gerund.
