This unit provided an overview of the major parts of speech, delving into detailed explanations and examples of each. Not having studied parts of speech in detail since elementary school, I had to stop and reread several sections multiple times! There were also some surprises; for example, I don't think I was ever taught that the reason some adjectives use "-er"" and some require the word ""more"" is related to the number of syllables in the adjective. The word ""gerund"" had fallen completely out of my vocabulary! My own confusion was an excellent preview for me of how my students will be feeling about English grammar
