Overall, I am very happy I enrolled for this course as I feel I have truly gained plenty from it. All Units were very clearly explained and provided great insights on how to address topics, relate to students and organize teaching activities. Despite my previous experience as a self-taught teacher and with well-established institutes providing their own methods and materials, I feel much more confident now as I have learned how to improve my teaching. Mainly, I have learned that planning lessons and organizing teaching time and activities ahead, with clear aims for both myself and my students, is just as important as being able to improvise on any topics. I have also learnt that extra material can be put to great effect, particularly in the way students perceive your teaching skills and time-management. But the key insight I got from this course is the importance of variety in supporting students' development of both receptive and productive skills, giving listening, reading, free speaking and writing activities just as much focus as with grammar. I have been putting what I have learnt into practice as my course progressed and I have been seeing good results at all levels. Now I always plan my lessons and make sure the study stage follows an engage stage, with plenty of activation in the end. I always make sure there's something new to study in each lesson and I make periodical reviews with all my students. I also make sure feedback includes enquiring on new needs or requirements and I have included specific lessons on intonation and pronunciation, having clearly studied these topics through this course material. But above all, I have learnt to question myself on the achievement of my goals with each student, keeping my teaching open to adjustments when needed. After all… good teachers will always have good students, won't they?
