There’s plenty to see and do in Phnom Penh and with cheap TUK TUKs on every street corner (about US$1 per kilometre) getting around is a breeze. As confronting as it is, no visit to Phnom Penh would be complete without taking in what the infamous Khmer Rouge left behind in the late 1970s. If you’re keen to travel a bit further, Angkor Wat, Kep and Koh Rong Island are all highly recommended. 
The Riverside precinct in Phnom Penh is the epicentre of nightlife and entertainment. You’ll find small, family-owned restaurants, street food vendors, western fast-food outlets, more bars than you’ll have time to visit, wall-to-wall coffee shops, pop-up shops of all sorts and street markets. Taking a walk along the Tonle Sap Boardwalk in Phnom Penh, which abuts the Riverside entertainment area, is a popular activity for both local people and expats – and it’s free!

Each TEFL trainee is allocated their own room with an ensuite bathroom at the Best Central Point Hotel. The fixtures and fittings in each room are what you’d expect to find in a basic hotel in a developing country – a double bed, desk, chair, small fridge, television, air conditioner, place to hang your clothes and the like. 
The total price is divided into: deposit and balance.

How do I get a background (police) check?
 

Where will I meet your representative at the airport?
Airport collection is an optional extra (US $30.00).  If you have booked airport collection from the International Terminal in Phnom Penh, when you exit the airport building, look for the Park Cafe on the right-hand-side. You will see our representative standing in front of the ‘Park Cafe’ holding a sign with your name on it. If you have any issues at the airport or if you get lost, please call our duty officer on cell-phone number: +855 16242202 (international), 016242202 (local). 
How will I be assessed?
This is an intensive, government-regulated TESOL programme that involves a time commitment of approximately 150 hours over a 4-week period. It deliberately involves a lot of work - and comes with high expectations. You will be assessed from the first day of the TESOL course – punctuality, attitude and input are really important in the teaching profession. In weeks one and two, the emphasis is on ‘theory’. Most of the practical teaching component will take place in weeks three and four. There is no formal examination as such.  You’re required to upload completed assessment tasks to a Learning Platform, which is relatively easy to use. The Learning Platform will allow you to repeat an assessment task up to three times without penalty. Allowing more than three attempts is at the discretion of our local partners - and may result in a reassessment fee. The best way to avoid having to repeat an assessment task and potentially incur a reassessment fee, is to: 1. carefully read and follow the instructions for each task, 2. don't cut corners, and 3. conduct a 'self-audit' process before you hit the submit tab.  With our TESOL course in Phnom Penh, each task will be assessed as 'competent' or 'not yet competent'. You must achieve a 'competent' grade in all Modules to be eligible for government-regulated TESOL certification.
What does hands-on’ job help mean?
 As soon as you have submitted the assessment tasks associated with the course (due in week 4), our partners in Phnom Penh will help you put together a quality CV and then start the process of referring you to schools in our extensive network. Moreover, the team on the ground are always happy to offer ‘mock’ interviews, advice on employment agreements and background information on prospective employers.  You can be assured that there are many more English teaching positions available in Cambodia than there are qualified people to fill the positions. Most graduates of the TESOL programme in Phnom Penh start a paid teaching job within 7 days of completing the course.

Should I be concerned about my personal safety?
These days Phnom Penh is no more dangerous than New York, London, Sydney and most other large cities. Having said this, it pays to be vigilant especially when carrying a bag or using a cellphone in a public place. Placing your wallet in your back pocket is another ‘no, no’.
I've heard horror stories about the traffic congestion. What can you tell me?
There’s no doubt about it, the traffic in Phnom Penh is chaotic. Believe it or not, you do get used to it. They key is to allow plenty of time to get from point A to Point B.
How can I keep in touch with home?
Our partners will help you to buy a new SIM card so you can easily make local and international phone calls. The internet is cheap and readily available in Southeast Asia, so options like Skype and Zoom are viable.
What’s the weather like in Hanoi?
Phnom Penh is hot and humid 12 months of the year. The ‘wet season’ in Phnom Penh is characterised by short bursts of heavy rain. Flooding in Phnom Penh is commonplace. 
 
How soon after the course will I receive my certificate?
Certificates typically arrive at the location where you did your training within a matter of days after you have successfully completed all of the assessment tasks and related documentation. Why can’t I get my certificate immediately? The independent assessment process (and the issuing of certificates) takes place outside of Cambodia. This external process is central to your certificate having international recognition. You will be notified by email when your certificate is available for collection.
 
 What happens if I choose to move before my certificate is available for collection at my training centre?
There isn’t a postage fee built into the cost of the TESOL package. Why? Conservatively, 90% of certificates are collected at the training location. It would be unfair to bill all customers for a service that the vast majority will not use.  If a student wants their certificate posted somewhere, we can certainly do that for the cost of the postage after receiving a written request. The postal fee is set by the local Post Office, with no mark up from our local partners. 
 
How many hours of teaching practice will I have during the course?
Our TESOL course includes a minimum of 14 hours practical teaching experience with ‘actual’ ESL students. The first 6 hours are all about observing and getting a feel for what it is like working as an ESL teacher. We pair you with an experienced teacher and you participate in his or her classes. Once you have finished the 6 hours of class observation, you then move on to complete a minimum of 8 hours of critical assessed teaching practice – with ‘actual’ students involved in ongoing classes.
How long will I have access to the Student Learning Portal?
TESOL students have access to the portal from when they start the TESOL course in Phnom Penh to when they finish the course. The content on the portal is intellectual property that’s protected by Copyright. We’re required by our insurers to have strategies in place to protect our intellectual property and limiting access to current students (only) is one of a number of ways that we seek to meet our obligations
Do I need to bring a laptop with me?
You will definitely need a laptop during the TESOL course. If you don’t own a laptop, it might be possible to hire one from our local partners for your personal use
How many students are there in each TESOL course group?
On average there are 12 students in each TESOL course in Phnom Penh. Students who enrol in our TESOL programme come from all corners of the world with around 30% being non-native English speakers.
Do I need travel Insurance?
Travel insurance – with decent medical coverage – is always a smart move.
What are my accommodation options?
You will have received a separate PDF document that identifies accommodation options in Phnom Penh for your consideration. There is no obligation to choose one of the suggested options. We encourage all TESOL students to research on the internet - Agoda, Airbnb and similar - for the best possible deal located within reasonable travel distance of the training location.
What’s the dress code for the course?
You must wear professional and culturally appropriate attire when observing or teaching English language classes in Cambodia. Here is a general guide:  For males, professional attire includes, but isn’t limited to: suit type pants, a belt, a business shirt with a collar, lace up black or brown shoes and socks. While most schools require male teachers to wear a tie, this isn’t the case during your TESOL programme.  For females, professional attire includes, but isn’t limited to: slacks, a belt, a business type shirt, sensible shoes for standing on your feet for an extended period, a dress of appropriate length - keep in mind your teaching work may on occasions require you to sit or crawl around on the floor.  While observing or teaching English language classes jeans, shorts, tee shirts, polo tops, sandals and alike - casual clothes - are definitely out.  Outside of observation and teaching practice classes, TESOL students are free to wear casual clothes to class. 
What vaccinations should I have before I arrive in Vietnam?
Almost certainly, schools in Cambodia will expect that you have completed a full ‘course’ of covid vaccinations.  Vaccination advice related to Covid and other diseases can change rapidly and often without formal notice. With this in mind, it’s best to consult your family doctor before travelling abroad.

On average, modules one to eleven should take around 21 hours of study each to complete to a good standard. The thesis task typically takes in the region of 20 hours study, which adds up to a course length of roughly 250 hours.

This will allow you to gain further teaching knowledge and some invaluable time in the classroom before you head off to start your first real-life teaching position. There are two different options for how the lessons are undertaken and verified:
Option 1: You can find a school or language center of your choice (either in-class or online) and teach your lessons there. The school will sign off that you have completed these lessons and your documents will be sent to ITTT for verification.
Option 2: You can find your own student/s and teach the lessons independently at a location of your choice, either face-to-face or remotely. You will need to video one of these sessions (1 hour) and send it to ITTT with your other documentation for verification.

What are my payment options?
Course deposits must be paid to our administrative center. Credit/debit card payments are the fastest and cheapest way to pay, but we also accept payments via Western Union, Pay Pal and bank transfer. While there are no deadlines for a deposit, courses can fill up quickly and your seat will only be reserved after the deposit has been paid.
Once you make your deposit, you will receive an email with an informational packet that provides detailed information about the course and New York City itself.
Please pay the balance of the course fee directly to the New York City school on or before the first day of the course. You will receive an invoice before the first day. The course fee is payable in US dollars at the current exchange rate. The payment can be made in cash, traveler’s checks, or by credit card. Please note that we are unable to accept banker’s drafts or personal checks.
Course fees are all-inclusive so you won’t be asked to pay additional costs for course related materials or services. This also includes course moderation, accreditation fees and lifetime job assistance.

Course attendees have three options in terms of accommodation:
New York City Hostels
For all those who love to be on Times Square or in the immediate vicinity, we suggest hostel accommodation. Good choices are the Times Square West Hostel, the Times Square Dream Hostel and the Swiss Hostel. Beds in a multi-bed dorm start at US$ 30 per night (depending on availability). We suggest using hostels that are below 110th Street in Manhattan.
Home Stays in New York City
Another popular option is to stay with a local family on a home stay basis. Trainees are given a private room with shared bathroom facilities. Prices for this option start at around US$ 700 per month. Please see your deposit acknowledgement for more details on our home stay program.

What travel documents will I need for travel to the usa?
This information is specific to your country of origin. For the most accurate and current information regarding travel documents for the USA, please contact your nearest American Embassy. There is also a very good chance that all the information you require (application documents, application fees, duration of processing documents), is available on the embassy’s webpage.
What is the course schedule?
During the first week, classes heavily concentrate on learning about ESL teaching principles and methods. Classes start at 9:00 a.m. and finish at 5:00 p.m. with an hour lunch from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. and several short breaks throughout the day. During these sessions trainees learn about classroom management, grammar, phonology, culture and other practical aspects of the course.
Students start their teaching practice in the middle of the second week. The lessons are given to the New York ESL students at the TEFL/TESOL Training Institute. These lessons are followed by immediate feedback from the instructors. We aim to provide six to ten hours of observed teaching practice over the four-week course.
On Fridays, trainees review and do assignments in the morning and are then free after 1:00 p.m. Weekends are also free. They are, however, encouraged to take their books with them wherever they go, so they can study. In addition to these hours, there is also time that must be spent preparing materials and completing various assignments.
What can I expect during teaching practice?
We use local immigrant students for the trainees’ teaching practice. These students are very keen and enthusiastic and because we don’t charge them to attend, all students come to classes purely because they want to!
Lessons are based upon real teaching resources found all over the world and you will have the chance to create your own materials as well. You will receive the aid of your course trainer throughout lesson planning and receive immediate feedback on your lesson after it’s been delivered. Practicum is assessed and a satisfactory assessment is required to earn your TEFL/TESOL certificate.
Who usually attends the course?
On average, we have around seven trainees on each course. The participants come from a wide variety of English speaking countries and we also accept non-native speakers of English with a high proficiency in the language.
Is there a dress code?
When you are not teaching, attire can be casual. However, please bear in mind that we enjoy four seasons in New York: spring, summer, fall and winter. Between November and the end of February, the temperature may fall below freezing so a winter coat, a hat, a scarf and mittens/gloves are recommended. In March, temperatures begin to rise and New Yorkers start wearing t-shirts, shorts and sandals, although you should still bring something warm to wear in case of a few additional cold days. From the end of May to the beginning of September, the temperature varies between warm and very hot and there is also a high probability of short, heavy showers. During September and October the temperature is usually around a cool 55 °F.
During your teaching practice, attire should be smart and conservative. Your shoulders must be covered and skirts or trousers must cover your knees when you are sitting down. Women are advised to be careful that your shirts are not too low cut or show your stomach as you may need to lean over to help a student sitting at a desk. Jeans, shorts and flip-flops are not acceptable during teaching practice. Shoes or sandals should be conservative.
What should I bring for course studies?
Please be sure to arrive on the first day of the course with a notebook and a pen. We encourage you to bring a laptop as the training center has excellent high-speed internet connections, including wireless. There are also a number of internet cafes nearby. Should you require a computer for coursework and lesson planning at the school, we have a computer available.
What is an average program day like?

Hua Hin itself features a beautiful, powdery sand beach, plenty of waterside seafood restaurants, a lively night market and plenty of beach activities. Accommodation along the Beach and on the streets leading away from the sea ranges from simple guesthouses to luxury resorts. Hua Hin is accessible via train, bus, or car and the seaside community of 60,000 residents is famed for its warm and welcoming Thai hospitality.
The TEFL course intakes in Thailand happen regularly, giving participants a range of choices to suit their schedules. There will be many fellow participants on the course; usually around 20 participants from around the world during term courses.  In the late September and late April intakes, there are 70-100 participants. This allows participants the opportunity for multilateral cultural exchange.

Hua Hin TEFL course participants arrive in Bangkok and then spend one to two nights in a hotel in Bangkok. They arrive up to two days prior to the listed start date. The group then leaves together on the Monday morning of the listed start date via group transport.
For the course and observed teaching practice in Hua Hin, we use a prominent educational institution known for its commitment to academic excellence and community development. With a rich history dating back several decades, the school has become an integral part of the local educational landscape. It offers a diverse range of programs and resources, catering to the educational needs of students from preschool to high school levels. The school emphasizes values such as cultural appreciation, civic responsibility, and environmental awareness, making it a nurturing and holistic learning environment for students in the picturesque setting of Hua Hin.
We offer a full 120-hour in-class TESOL course starting on select start dates for a whole month in Hua Hin (about two and a half hours outside of Bangkok). Applicants arrive up to 2 days prior to the start date and are expected to arrive by the latest on the morning of the day before the intake start date. It is broken down into 4 weeks. 
The first week is a cultural orientation week designed to immerse you in the culture through important and fun activities such as:
The second and third weeks are dedicated to classes around the content and methodologies of teaching English as a second language. They will include lesson planning for both the receptive and productive skills of students such as speaking, reading, writing, and listening, as well as classroom management techniques and the principles of EFL. This will be held in a classroom with an experienced TESOL instructor, with classes from 8 am to 4 pm with a lunch break in between. 
The final week of the in-class course is practical training in a Thai classroom. You are paired with another TESOL participant to plan a number of lessons for different types of lessons, age levels, and proficiency levels of students. You plan and deliver the lesson, and then get feedback from your instructor who is in the classroom with you. 
You then write your final TESOL exam and graduate on the final Saturday at the graduation ceremony with the 120-hour in-class TESOL. It never expires and can be used around the world.
The accredited course in Hua Hin is operated by an independent organisation that issues its own certificate on completion of the course.
The Bangkok hotel cost is 700 Thai Baht per person per night (based on a shared room). If you request to stay in a room alone, the cost will be 1,200 THB per night. Note that there is a 500 THB key deposit that will be returned to you upon checkout. Check-in at the Hotel is 2pm. If you wish to check in early (8am to 1pm) there is an additional charge of 500 THB. Checking in prior to 8am will be considered an additional night’s stay. If you plan to arrive in Bangkok a day or two early, you should budget for the cost of transportation, attractions and food. 
Baan Sam Pluem (BSP) serves as the ideal accommodation for our students in Hua Hin, offering a unique blend of convenience and coastal charm. Situated just across the street from the beautiful beach, this location provides our students with easy access to the stunning shoreline and refreshing sea breezes. This option is within walking distance to the vibrant center of town, allowing students to explore local attractions and immerse themselves in the culture of Hua Hin. It is also located within walking distance to the TEFL training center. 
In instances when we have larger classes or seek additional amenities, we utilize Glory Place, a nearby facility closer to town, equipped with a spacious pool to accommodate our students comfortably. This flexibility ensures that our students enjoy a well-rounded experience, combining the serene seaside ambiance of Baan Sam Pluem School with the convenience and extra facilities of Glory Place when needed.

What are my payment options?
 The initial deposit is due as a lump sum in order to secure your spot in the program. The final program fee is due 12 weeks prior to your selected departure date. You can speak to our team about breaking this down into smaller payment amounts leading up to the 12 week prior deadline.  
What are my accommodation options? 
Shared/ single accommodation is pre-booked so that all participants stay together for the duration of the course. If you prefer to look at independent accommodation options, you can speak to our team about that. We do advise staying in the pre-booked accommodation as it allows you to interact with other participants and is situated conveniently in proximity to the classroom and activities.
Do I need a degree to teach in Thailand?
Yes. In order to get a legal working permit, a Bachelor’s degree is required. 
Is there a dress code?
 During the theory and orientation of the TESOL course itself, there is no particular dress code. However, during the practical teaching element in the classroom, teachers will need to adhere to the cultural and professional requirements of the Thai classroom. Packing lists and examples of classroom attire will be provided in an information pack prior to departure, so that you can pack accordingly. There will also be specific requirements in terms of dress code for some of the cultural orientation activities, such as the Temple visit, which will require participants to follow the dress code for temples (shoulders and knees covered etc). 
What is the course schedule?
 The course runs over 4 weeks. Week 1 is the cultural orientation, which includes activities such as language lessons, a cooking class, meditation with a Buddhist monk and a temple visit, a hike to a waterfall, a welcome beach BBQ and cultural etiquette, history and politics lectures. The itinerary will be provided in advance. Week 2 and 3 are classroom based lectures on the theoretical information. Classes start at 8AM and run to 4PM in the afternoon, with a lunch break in between. The fourth and final week is your teaching practical week, which will include practical classroom experience where you’ll teach alongside another TESOL participant. The classes you’ll be teaching and more information about the preparation of those classes will be provided in advance. In the final week, you also write the TESOL examination. Graduation happens on the final Friday of the course.  
What do I need for the course?
Participants will need a laptop/tablet for the course. Notebooks, pens and some classroom supplies are also advisable (but can be purchased in country).
When can I arrive in Thailand?
The TESOL course start dates always fall on a Monday. We would like all participants to have arrived at the latest by the Sunday morning prior. At the earliest (for the inclusion of airport pick-up and pre-booked accommodation), participants can arrive on the Saturday prior. Participants can arrive earlier than the Saturday, but they will then have to make their own arrangements for airport pick up and accommodation prior to the Saturday early check in.
When is the best time to go to Thailand?
The best times to go to Thailand would be the late March course or the late September course. The students in Thailand have two major vacation periods in the year: the month of May and the month of October. If you join one of the courses that runs throughout the month of the vacation periods, you’ll be part of a very big group of teachers, which makes it more fun. It will also mean that if you choose to do the placement program thereafter, you’ll start at the beginning of the new semester, which has advantages for preferences.
What travel documents will I need before I travel to Thailand?
You’ll need your valid passport (with more than 6 blank visa pages, and an expiration date exceeding 6 months from your arrival date), travel insurance for the duration of your time in Thailand, proof of an onward journey within your visa allowance and proof of financial means.  
 
How many people are generally on the course?
For the March and September courses, we have around 50-80 people. For courses that fall in between the semester, we usually have around 15-25 people. 
 
What are my options if I’d like to stay in Thailand and teach after the course?
You can speak to your Support Coordinator about applying for the Guaranteed Placement option. If your application is approved, the additional amount is payable. You’ll then complete the course and go directly to your paid teaching position thereafter. You’ll need additional documents if you’re planning on teaching in Thailand, so you’ll need to prepare those prior to departure with the help of our support team.  
 
What documents will I need if I choose to do the guaranteed placement after the course?
A notarized, authenticated and legalized Bachelor’s degree copy, your original Bachelor’s degree, your university transcript and a clean and clear criminal background check from your home country. 
How does teaching practical work?
 In the fourth and final week of the course, yourself and another TESOL participant will be grouped together to plan, prepare and execute lessons in real life classroom situations in a Thai school. You’ll be assigned a number of classes to prepare for and your instructor will be in the classroom with you when you give the lesson. The aim of the observed practical is to ensure that you are exposed to a number of different age groups, proficiency levels and types of lessons. For example, on the Monday of the final week, you may have Grade 11’s that are intermediate and you’ll be doing a speaking lesson. On Wednesday, you may have Grade 1’s that are beginner level and you’ll be doing a listening lesson. 
Can I use the certificate for teaching outside of Thailand?
Yes. The certification is internationally accredited and does not expire. It can be used around the world.

English Teaching Jobs
Terms of employment and rates of pay for each TEFL job will of course vary according to location and the qualifications of the applicant.  On completion of one of our courses, graduates will be equipped to obtain teaching jobs globally.  There are some areas of the world where there is a higher need for English teachers than others, such as Asia, South America and Europe.  There are also some countries in which teaching opportunities will be offered in public schools, community colleges and institutes of further and/or higher education.  In other countries there is a high demand for teachers at private language schools and in house at private or multi-national companies.  Whichever location you choose you can be assured that the professional level of training and learning acquired on our course will put you in the top bracket of demand in the English teaching profession.  It is accepted that the hardest part of entering this area of the teaching industry is the actual TEFL course.  Our course has been developed over time to be as professional, practical and effective as possible to help you over this hurdle and to make you a more desirable candidate for prospective employers.
After Teaching English
People with knowledge of the TEFL/TESOL teaching industry agree that, on average, people teach English as a foreign language for between one to three years after which 80% return to their country of origin to obtain employment.  This is because employers see time spent teaching English overseas as an invaluable asset which is integral to their process in deciding who to choose to fill a job vacancy.  It shows initiative, ambition and commitment in an applicant.  It also enhances the existing respect that teachers are shown the world over.  Many TEFL teachers go on to obtain further qualifications, leading to employment as fully qualified teachers in various institutions in their home countries or privately to individuals or companies.
Up to 20% of English language teachers progress to further qualifications in teaching English as a foreign language, such as a Dip TEFL, MA TEFL and MA TESOL.  Jobs for English language teachers are currently on a dramatic increase in English speaking countries due to economic and business reasons, giving you the ideal opportunity to put your skills to the test in your home country.
Obtaining further qualification such as a Dip. TEFL will include a number of observed teaching techniques and practical training, whereas a MA TEFL or MA TESOL is more theory orientated.  Whichever further qualification you may choose to pursue will open more windows of opportunity to you in the English teaching job market and vastly improve your terms of employment.  Examples are (Assistant) Director of Studies, Teacher Trainer, Curriculum Designer, Materials Producer and Language Centre Manager.  Universities and organisations in oil rich countries also offer employment on extremely favourable terms with high salaries to MA qualified teachers.  
TEFL Job opportunities by region
 
There is a huge array of job opportunities on offer as most Asian countries are experiencing a boom in demand for suitably qualified native teachers of English.  The current increase in demand is reflected by the fact that the salaries on offer could be said to be the highest in the world.  
Qualifications required to teach English are specific to the requirements of each particular country.  The majority of the economically developed countries such as Japan, Korea and Taiwan insist on a university or college degree, in addition to the 4 week teacher training certificate.  Salaries in such countries tend to be higher as they need to be internationally competitive and standards (therefore costs) of living are higher.  By contrast, countries such as China, Thailand and Vietnam have a cheaper cost of living and therefore salaries are lower.  However, the diversity of culture, as well as the opportunity for new and varied experiences often features higher in such countries. 
 
The fact that the first language in this region is English means that the focus in the USA is for teaching English as a second language (ESL).  The huge demand for ESL means that nearly all universities and colleges run an ESL program, as do a variety of government and charitable organisations.  This is the major difference from other regions where teaching is mainly language school or business based.
 
The Central and South American regions provide diverse teaching opportunities.  EFL teachers are drawn to these regions because of the cultural diversity and Latin values. What is the course schedule?
The initial orientation is on Monday morning at 8:45 a.m. prior to the first class. The first class will take place on Monday morning at 9:30 a.m. The full course schedule will also be provided on Monday morning. Sessions generally run between 9:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. with appropriate breaks throughout the day.
What can I expect during teaching practice?
We use local Filipino students for the trainees’ teaching practice. The students are very keen and enthusiastic and because we don’t charge them to attend, all students come to classes purely because they want to!
Lessons are based upon real teaching resources found all over the world and you will have the chance to create your own materials as well. You will also receive the aid of your course trainer throughout lesson planning and receive immediate feedback on your lesson after it’s been delivered. Practicum is assessed and a satisfactory assessment is required to earn your TEFL/TESOL certificate.
Who usually attends the course?
We average around 16 trainees on each course. The majority of trainees are British or American, while many others come from Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Ireland, South Africa and the Philippines. Occasionally, we do get fluent non-native English speakers from Western Europe, Scandinavia, India, China, Thailand, etc. Trainees must be 18 years of age or older and the age range varies greatly depending on the course.
Is there a dress code?
For all input and tutorial sessions at the training location, there is only one specific dress requirement: Both men and women should have a shirt covering their shoulders. The course operates from within a school so we ask you to be mindful of this, as well as being mindful of your peers and to respect the fact that you are a visitor in another country.
During teaching practice there are specific requirements that adhere to the local dress code. All trainees are expected to dress professionally according to the following guidelines:
Women: Shoulders should be covered, blouses with sleeves are suggested. No low-cut necklines, very short skirts or bare midriffs. Open-toed shoes are acceptable, but not hiking or flip-flop sandals.
Men: Long pants, slacks or trousers are required, jeans are not acceptable. Short or long-sleeved shirts with a collar are necessary, although a tie is not required. Loafers or dress shoes are both fine, sandals are not acceptable. Long hair should always be tied back.

What is the course schedule?
There are input sessions every morning from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. when trainees learn classroom management, grammar, language and culture and other practical aspects of the course. Lunch is from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. From 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. trainees prepare their lessons and then teach them to Japanese students. These lessons are followed by immediate feedback from the instructors. You will not be teaching every afternoon, we aim to provide six to eight hours of observed teaching practice over the four-week course. In addition to these hours, there is also time that must be spent preparing materials and completing various assignments.
During the course, you will have the experience of being a learner of an unknown language using the same techniques as you will use to teach English. This is so trainees get to experience the problems that students will face from their perspective. We advise against taking any additional language classes during the course as the program is very intensive and you simply won't have the time!

What are my accommodation options?
We have a network of great hotels and guest houses near the training center and once you reserve your seat on the course, we will provide you with a detailed list of accommodation providers. Prices for accommodation vary from US$ 270 to US$ 450 per month.
Ho Chi Minh City is a 20-minute taxi ride from the airport. A metered taxi charges approximately US$ 5 from Tan Son Nhat to the city center where our center is located.
What travel documents will I need for vietnam?
All visitors to Vietnam are required to carry a passport valid for at least six months after their arrival date.
Only nationals of Thailand, The Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Japan can stay in Vietnam for a maximum of 30 days without a visa. Citizens from all other countries must obtain a valid visa upon arriving in Vietnam.*

What is the course schedule?
The course begins on Monday morning at 9:00 a.m. with the orientation session and first class. Trainees will also receive the full course schedule on Monday morning. Classes are usually from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with appropriate breaks provided.
Trainees are expected to attend all input and other sessions included on the schedule unless they are sick and require medical treatment. This is particularly important for teaching practice. It is very difficult to arrange alternate times and there will be an additional fee for rescheduled teaching practice.
What can I expect during teaching practice?
Lessons are delivered to students aged 16 years and older. The vast majority of students are Vietnamese but other nationalities do attend some classes. Class sizes vary from one-to-one lessons up to 16 students. Lessons are based upon real teaching resources found all over the world and you will have the chance to create your own materials as well. You will receive the aid of your course trainer throughout lesson planning and receive immediate feedback on your lesson after it’s been delivered. Practicum is assessed and a satisfactory assessment is required to earn your TEFL/TESOL certificate.
Who usually attends the course?
We average 24 trainees on each course. The majority of trainees are British or American, while many others come from Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Ireland, South Africa and the Philippines. Occasionally, we do get fluent non-native English speakers from Western Europe, Scandinavia, India, China, Thailand, etc. Trainees must be 18 years of age or older and the age range varies greatly depending on the course.
Is there a dress code?
For all input and tutorial sessions at the training location, there is only one specific dress requirement: Both men and women should have a shirt covering their shoulders. The course operates from within a school so we ask you to be mindful of this, as well as being mindful of your peers and to respect the fact that you are a visitor in another country.
During teaching practice there are specific requirements that adhere to the local dress code. All trainees are expected to dress professionally according to the following guidelines:
Women: Shoulders should be covered, blouses with sleeves are suggested. No low-cut necklines, very short skirts or bare midriffs. Open-toed shoes are acceptable, but not hiking or flip-flop sandals.
Men: Long pants, slacks or trousers are required, jeans are not acceptable. Short or long-sleeved shirts with a collar are necessary, although a tie is not required. Loafers or dress shoes are both fine, sandals are not acceptable. Long hair should always be tied back.
What should I bring for course studies?
Please bring a pen and a notebook for taking notes during class. You may also want to bring a Dictaphone. It is not required equipment, but many trainees have commented that the possession of their recording device made the course easier for them. A laptop would also be particularly useful.

Accommodation at our TEFL training center in Alexandria is located in the relaxing coastal neighborhood of Al-Agami—a nearby suburb of Alexandria. Here, you’ll have a private room in an apartment that will be shared with a fellow trainee.
Every apartment is comfortably furnished and cleaned each week. While bedrooms are private, you and a fellow trainee will share a lounge room, bathroom and a fully-equipped kitchenette—including supplies for daily cleaning. Please bring bath towels and queen-sized bed sheets.
While staying along the seaside in Al-Agami, you’ll be located near the city’s many restaurants, cafes and supermarkets. Paradise Beach also sits within 100 yards of the campus. While this is a private beach, our course trainees are able to take full advantage of exclusive access.
Al-Agami is only 30 minutes from the center of Alexandria. We provide two weekly trips into the city for free. Public transport is available every day and is very affordable, or taxis are available for a bit more. Of course, free transport is also provided to all schools you’ll be teaching in.

Shared Apartment (US$ 100): The accommodation is located in a seafront suburb of Alexandria and consists of a shared two bedroom apartment on our private campus. Each apartment has a furnished sitting room, a bathroom with hot water and a kitchen equipped with a refrigerator, a cooker and cooking utensils. All apartments are clean, comfortable and adequately furnished. Free cleaning services are available once a week upon request. This option is available from the Wednesday before the course begins and the price covers the four week stay. If you would like to choose your accommodation independently, you are welcome to do so.
What travel documents will I need for egypt?
You will be required to get a tourist visa (our course is registered as a seminar in Egypt, not as a school) from the nearest Egyptian Consulate or Embassy. This process takes about one week. You can also obtain your visa upon arrival in Cairo. However, we recommend getting your visa before you leave your home country so you do not have to waste time at the airport.*

What is the course schedule?
The first class will take place on Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. Classes run from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. There is a lunch break from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. in addition to appropriate breaks between sessions. Classes run from Sunday through to Thursday, a typical school week in Egypt. The first two weeks are input sessions where trainees acquire skills related to teaching techniques, classroom management, grammar, phonology, Arabic language and culture and other components of the course.
What can I expect during teaching practice?
We use local Egyptian students for the trainees’ teaching practice and all practice sessions are held in real classrooms.
Teaching practice starts in the last two weeks of the course. It includes live teaching observation, shared teaching practice and six teaching practice classes. In a typical day our trainees go to the teaching practice school to give their lesson in the morning (transport is provided) and in the afternoon they prepare for the next teaching practice class with the assistance of the trainers at the center.

During trainees’ lessons, casual attire is allowed. Egypt can get rather hot so this means sandals, shorts, t-shirts and other loose fitting clothing, cotton attire is best. During teaching practice you will need to dress in trousers/skirts and closed-toe shoes. Men need collared shirts, while women need to wear conservative tops that will cover their shoulders. Men also need to shave or keep facial hair neatly trimmed. No visible tattoos or facial piercings are allowed while teaching local students.
What should I bring for course studies?
Please be sure to arrive on the first day of the course with a notebook and a pen. We also encourage you to bring a laptop as we have Wi-Fi at the training center. We will provide all course materials for you so there is no need to bring anything else for the course itself.

Local Resorts (US$ 170-330): We have a few great options for you to choose from and all locations are close to the school. Prices will depend mainly on your choice of a fan or air-conditioned room.
Local Guesthouse (US$ 140-600): Features an on-site bar, cable TV for sports and news, a Western grill and a Thai kitchen for traditional Thai food. Reservations are based on advanced bookings only.
Your accommodation is available from 1:00 p.m. on the Saturday before the course begins through to 5:00 p.m. on the Friday of the final week. We hope you will plan to arrive in Ban Phe by Saturday as this will give you a chance to relax and get accustomed to your surroundings before the course begins.
What travel documents will I need for thailand?
It is advised that you enter Thailand on a 60-day Tourist Visa. Applications are cheap and turnaround times are fairly quick. You need to apply for a tourist visa with your nearest Thai embassy. Once in Thailand, trainees can extend their visas for an additional 30 days for a small fee at a local immigration office. Alternatively, some nationals can enter the Kingdom and obtain permission to stay in Thailand for 30 days (by air) or 15 days (over land) upon arrival.
If you are from a country where visa procedures require a course invitation letter, one will be made available to you immediately after your intent to attend the course has been proven via your deposit payment.*

What is the course schedule?
The initial orientation is usually on the Sunday evening prior to the course start date at 6:00 p.m. The first class will take place on Monday morning at 9:00 a.m. The full course schedule will also be provided on Monday morning. Sessions generally run between 9:00 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. with appropriate breaks throughout the day.
What can I expect during teaching practice?
We use local Thai students for the trainees’ teaching practice. Thai students are very keen and enthusiastic and because we don’t charge them to attend, all students come to classes purely because they want to.
Lessons are based upon real teaching resources found all over the world and you will have the chance to create your own materials as well. You will also receive the aid of your course trainer throughout lesson planning and receive immediate feedback on your lesson after it’s been delivered. Practicum is assessed and a satisfactory assessment is required to earn your TEFL/TESOL certificate.
Who usually attends the course?
The maximum class size on the Ban Phe course is 32, however it is split up into two groups. Normally we would expect to have around twenty trainees, with ten per group. Most of the participants are American, British, Canadian or Australian, although we do accept non-native speakers of English who have a high proficiency in the language.
Is there a dress code?
For all input and tutorial sessions at the training location, there is only one specific dress requirement: Both men and women should have a shirt covering their shoulders. The course operates from within a school so we ask you to be mindful of this, as well as being mindful of your peers and to respect the fact that you are a visitor in another country.
During teaching practice there are specific requirements that adhere to the local dress code. All trainees are expected to dress professionally according to the following guidelines:
Women: Shoulders should be covered, blouses with sleeves are suggested. No low-cut necklines, very short skirts or bare midriffs. Open-toed shoes are acceptable, but not hiking or flip-flop sandals.
Men: Long pants, slacks or trousers are required, jeans are not acceptable. Short or long-sleeved shirts with a collar are necessary, although a tie is not required. Loafers or dress shoes are both fine, sandals are not acceptable. Long hair should always be tied back.
What should I bring for course studies?
Please bring a pen and a notebook for taking notes during class. All relevant forms and instructions will be provided, as well as notes from the input sessions.
You may want to bring a recording device with you, it is not required equipment but many trainees have commented that this has made the course easier for them (for preparing lessons, interviewing and listening to conversations with students etc).
We also encourage you to bring a laptop as we have Wi-Fi at the training center and in the lobby of the hotel. We will provide all course materials for you so there is no need to bring anything else for the course itself.
What documents do I need for finding employment after the course?
If you plan to work in Thailand without returning home before you do so, you will need to bring your original degree (if you have one) and any other teaching qualifications that you might have. While not required by all schools, it’s advisable to obtain a local criminal background check and sealed university transcripts as some schools will want to see one, or both of these documents.
Do I need a degree to teach in thailand?
The short answer is no. Thailand’s Ministry of Education (MoE) does require foreign teachers to have degrees, but not all schools fall under the MoE’s jurisdiction. Primary and secondary schools, both public and private, will require degrees as your teacher’s license will need to be approved by the MoE. However, university and corporate work will not require a degree. Teaching in one of Thailand’s thousands of language schools also does not necessarily require a degree. So while some sources fail to truly explore this issue and say degrees are required, you can rest assured, they are not required for all teaching positions around the Kingdom.
