I have learnt a lot in this course, there is no doubt. Although I am a lawyer, I decided to take this course because my goal is to teach english in the future. When I applied for this course, I did not know how it worked, but after this month I can just say that this is a great course.
What have I learnt? Well, I had already studied grammar for many years, so I think that before this course my level of english grammar and vocabulary was already quite good. However, there was a lack in my education: I didn't' know how to manage a class. These things had never been taught to me in the school nor in the english academy, so this course has contained a lot of new interesting topics that will be very useful for me.
For example, I had never listened about lesson plans. In fact, in my whole life I had just taught english to some individual students (my brother, some friends...), but never to a group of students. As a consequence, all the units that have focused on lesson plans, all the stages (engage-study-activate) and so have been very useful.
I have also enjoyed very much learning about all the devices that a teacher can use (visuals, DVDs...) because this has made me think that there are more devices and tools for teaching english than I thought before.
To sum up, before this course I would have taught a group just by explaining some grammar and by doing after that some exercise. Now, if I had to teach a group, I would start my lesson by giving them some picture or text, then I would explain the grammar and finally I would encourage them to perform some kind of debate and discussion. And always trying to use not just my course book, but also DVDs (just like we saw in Unit 17), visuals, video records...
As we can see, this course has been very useful to me!
I will put all these things that I have learnt into practice in the future. My goal is to teach english first in spain in a language school, and next year I'd like to move to Asia to study an MBA and also to teach english. Of course, from now on, I will teach by using al the methods and knowledge that I have learnt in this efl course.
